Sayak is a development economist whose research focuses on education, child labour, and climate change in low- and middle-income countries. His work sits at the intersection of academia, policymaking, and practice, using empirical methods to study how policy, infrastructure, and environmental changes shape children’s education, work, and economic outcomes. His current research examines compulsory schooling policies, the effects of infrastructure and electrification on schooling and child labour, and the impacts of climate change and climate-related shocks on children’s participation in school and work. Previously, Sayak spent several years at the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie), where he managed multi-country evaluation portfolios across Asia and Africa, and led the Transparency, Reproducibility, and Ethical Evidence (TREE) portfolio. He holds a PhD in Public Policy from Oregon State University.
